Introducing AstraSync: BlackBerry ActiveSync Compatibility

AstraSync™ is a new software application for BlackBerry® Smartphones that performs two-way over-the-air synchronization of email, calendar and contact data with a Microsoft Exchange, MailSite Fusion, CommuniGate Pro, Zimbra, Scalix, FirstClass or Kerio MailServer.

AstraSync does this by implementing the Exchange ActiveSync and DirectPush protocols. AstraSync can be downloaded over-the-air and runs silently in the background on the BlackBerry® Smartphone. Users can configure the name of the ActiveSync compatible server, their username and password and can select which data they wish to synchronize.

Does it work with BES or BIS?

AstraSync establishes a direct https connection between the BlackBerry® Smartphone and the Exchange, MailSite Fusion, CommuniGate Pro, Zimbra, Scalix, FirstClass or Kerio MailServer. Customers using AstraSync do not need to purchase a BlackBerry Enterprise Server® and are not dependent on the BlackBerry Internet Service.

How is it better than BES or BIS?

Customers can realize many benefits by not using the BlackBerry Enterprise Server® or Internet Service. Costs are dramatically lower since the BES license costs are substantial. Reliability is substantially higher since there are 50% fewer components to fail. Users are more productive since the inbox, calendars and contacts are always 100% in sync and it is no longer necessary to manage a duplicate inbox on the Smartphone.
