Installing and Configuring AstraSync

1.  Once the application has downloaded to your device, select “Run” to bring AstraSync up:

2.  The following warning screen is important. AstraSync synchronizes Calendar and Contact data directly between an ActiveSync server such as Microsoft Exchange and the BlackBerry Smartphone. If the BlackBerry device is also synchronized with the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, it is possible to either duplicate, or unintentionally lose data. Therefore, please turn off desktop synchronization under the “Synchronize” option in the BlackBerry Desktop Manager application. Once that is complete, click “OK”:

3.  You will next be presented with the AstraSync License Agreement. Please review it, and then click the application/menu key and choose “Accept” to continue using AstraSync:

4.  AstraSync will attempt to automatically detect and select the appropriate data connection to use. Typically this might be the BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) if you are on a BlackBerry data plan from your cellular carrier. Other options include BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) and Wireless Access Protocol (WAP). Click the application key and select “Next” to continue:

5.  The next screen allows you to configure the server settings relating to your ActiveSync server. If you are unsure of your server settings, you can try filling in all the fields which you know. If in doubt, your server administrator should be able to provide the correct settings:

6.  If you have the correct settings, AstraSync will connect to your server and you will be presented with the following screen:

7.  You may choose to synchronize any of the available collections as you wish. Most users will wish to synchronize all of Email, Contacts and Calendar:

8.  The following screen is important. If you already have items on your device such as contact details, AstraSync cannot know whether these items are related to ones on the ActiveSync server. It is therefore up to you to decide what to do with these items. If you have your address book data on both the server and the device, it is suggested to select “Delete Device Items”. This will delete all items permanently:

9.  AstraSync will then connect to your messaging server, login, and synchronize the items you have specified. If you have a large number of items on either the device or the server, this process will take some time to complete. It is advised that you ensure your device is fully charged, and in a location with a strong signal before starting this process:

10. Once the initial sync completes, you should be presented with a view of the inbox:
